My Favorite Pizzeria: Rubirosa

Every Monday – to celebrate the end of the day – I meet my friend Joanna at Rubirosa on Mulberry Street. We try to get in before the evening rush just after 7p.m., because even on the quietest day of the week, this place is packed. We order the same thing every week –  the classic pie, a side of black kale and two glasses of Chianti – so I can’t vouch for everything on the menu, but every plate that passes by looks equally delicious. The pizza comes from a 50 year old family recipe and is the perfect combination of a chewy crust, slightly bitter tomato sauce and small dollops of fresh mozzarella cheese. They also offer a gluten free menu for sufferers of Coeliac’s Disease. NoLIta is crowded with some of the best pizzeria’s in New York (Lombardi’s and Prince St. Pizza to name just two) but we always go back to Rubirosa. It’s definitely worth a visit!
